This project aspires to present a diverse collection of people’s spaces through pictures and words. Participants come from different parts of the world and all walks of life.
What is your space? What does it mean to you? It could be where you feel most comfortable or it could be something that you associate most with home. It could be anything at all.
Spaces is an ongoing project and updates will come weekly (or more frequently). I am hoping to cover as many countries and cultures as possible. To get alerts on new entries, subscribe to Spaces.
BACKGROUND
I started conceptualizing back in March 2011, a month after I got back from Los Angeles. I had lived there for a couple of months to study filmmaking and experience a life on my own for the very first time. I knew I would be meeting people from different cultures, but I never expected to end up in class with students from more than a dozen different countries. It was truly a crash course on diversity.
Since then, I’ve developed a strong curiosity about people’s perception on home and space. How do their spaces differ from mine? Or are they any different at all? Once I was clear about what I wanted, I started reaching out to people I admired and respected to possibly share their take on the matter. To my surprise, majority of the responses were very positive and encouraging. It was so much more than I was expecting and all the more asserted the fact that people will always surprise you. The kindness of strangers lives on.
I hope you’ll find what you see here inspiring and that it would strike a curiosity in you as well to see the world out there and the people in it.
